Hearthstone: Naxxramas Heroic Boss Guide – Military Quarter

The Plague Quarter, the second wing of the Hearthstone add-on, Naxxramas, opened this past week. Let’s dive in like before and review what I used to beat each boss. Hopefully they help  you get through them and get ready for the next wing!

Heroic Instructor Razuvious

Passive Hero Power: Unbalancing Strike – 1 Mana – Deal 4 damage.

Starting Board

This fight hands you a card that allows you to take control of the two starting minions on the board. I tried quite a few ways to play with this card, and it really does just seem best to play it as early as you can. He will also have a card that will give himself a 10 damage weapon that does 20 damage to your hero. You want to steal this card from his deck and use it against him to kill him. Due to his hero power, be vary aware of the order you play cards. Try to not just feed him. Overall this fight was not too bad. This fight was the  hardest one for me. I really needed to get some cards out in the right order or get them in hand to be able to combat what he has coming at you. So steal that weapon, and smack him in the face!

Heroic Gothik the Harvester

Heroic Hero Power: Harvest – 1 Mana – Draw a Card. Gain a Mana Crystal.

Smart trades and managing your health is the key to victory here. You entire goal this fight is just to watch him draw himself out of cards and then fatigue himself to death. So play defensively and make smart trades and you should be good to go here.

Heroic The Four Horsemen

Heroic Hero Power: Unholy Shadow – 5 Mana – Draw 2 cards.

Starting Board

Some things to be aware of going into this fight. All the minions need to be dead before you can damage the hero. He will also have a spell to resurrect one of them when they die back with one health, so be prepared for that. His weapon will also do more damage when all the starting minions are dead. Plan accordingly for that as well. Play some basic control and heal yourself often, push on to victory!

That was the summary for the third wing of the expansion for Hearthstone. The Construct Quarter opened up today! Once I work through that I’ll make another guide for everyone. Questions or comments message me on Twitter.

Hearthstone: Naxxramas Heroic Boss Guide – Plague Quarter

The Plague Quarter, the second wing of the Hearthstone add-on, Naxxramas, opened this past week. Let’s dive in like before and review what I used to beat each boss. Hopefully they help  you get through them and get ready for the next wing!

Heroic Noth the Plaguebringer

Passive Hero Power: Raise Dead – Whenever an enemy dies, raise a 5/5 skeleton.

This was by far the hardest fight for me this go around. I tried many decks to do this fight, freeze Mage and various other builds. What I ended up focusing on was a Priest control’ish deck with Alexstraza. You just work to maintain board control, but try not to feed minions to him to proc his Hero Power. It took me quite awhile to get the right card setup to finish this out. I did so bad on this fight I don’t have much more than that to explain here. Maintain board control, don’t sacrifice any minions unless you need to and that is how you can head towards victory.

Heroic Heigan the Unclean

Heroic Hero Power: Eruption – Deal 3 damage to the left-most enemy minion.

Starting board

For this fight you want to play pretty much a classic freeze Mage deck. You’ll want to maintain board control as much as you can as well gaming his hero ability. To do this you’ll want to play cards with advantageous deathrattles on the left-most side of your board. Once you get that piece working for you this fight gets really simple and you just stall, clear what you can and then blow him up once you have the cards.

Deck: Return of Frosty  (click for decklist)

Heroic Loatheb

Heroic Hero Power: Necrotic Aura – No Mana cost – Deal 3 damage to the enemy hero.

Starting board

Out of the three fights in this wing, this was the most  fun of the three. You start with the board at the link above. What I did was restart my game until I was able to mulligan a Shadow Word: Pain to clear the taunt minion. Once you have that, the huge initial threat is gone and you can play your game. You may be tempted to play an Alexstrasza in your deck for this boss. If you play her during this fight, Kel’thuzad will basically tell you to stop cheating. You will lose the mana you used to play the card, plus the card will just get removed off the board, and it wont be able to do anything. So hopefully that helps you avoid getting pretty messed up by that little trick. The real trick to this fight is playing with the spores and buffing your own minions so you can really do some damage to Loatheb. Take a look at my kill screen below for an idea of what can happen. I have since gone back to play the spore game a bit more and you can really get some of your minions with some really high attack values.

Hearthstone: Naxxramas Heroic Boss Guide – Arachnid Quarter

Curse of Naxxramas A Hearthstone Adventure was released this week. This is Blizzard’s first single player adventure mode add-on for Hearthstone. One of the nice things about this first wing is that everyone is able to unlock it for free for a limited time. So jump right in and start to check it out to see if you are interested in getting the next wings when they are released. The normal modes of the bosses as well as the class quests that come with this wing are pretty straightforward and we are not going to cover them in this guide. I am going to review what I used to defeat the heroic bosses. For these fights, the bosses they have tweaked hero powers and now start with 45 health instead of the standard 30. So let’s review each boss and see what I did to defeat them.

Heroic Anub’Rekhan

Heroic Hero Power: Skitter – For 2 Mana, Summon a 4/4 Nerubian.

The basic premise for this fight is that it is going to be very easy for Anub’Rekhan to summon fairly powerful minions pretty quickly. This can quickly overwhelm you. So to beat this fight we need to figure out a way to deal with all these minions.

Best way to deal with lots of minions that will wreck you? Ignore them completely of course!

Final Deck Choice: Basic Freeze Mage (click for decklist)

Follow the basic game plan with this deck. You want to stall until you can play Alexstrasza, and then use your nukes to kill the boss in the next turn or two. Save your Blizzards for a little later to better use the value of the card to clear a big board.

Heroic Grand Widow Faerlina

Heroic Hero Power: Rain of Fire – For 1 Mana, Fire a missile for each card in your opponents hand.

If you head into this fight, you will quickly notice that you don’t want to be sitting with too many cards in your hand. She will quickly whittle you down with her hero power. I tried a few decks  with this in mind, but didn’t have any luck. I then just decided to switch it up and went with a Druid, with a ton of beefy taunts. I got an Ironbark Protector out as soon as I could, and it started doing some considerable damage to her. I protected it with other taunts, and buffed it with some spells. He became the MVP of the run.

Heroic Maexxna

Heroic Hero Power: Web Wrap – No Mana cost – Return 2 random enemy minions to your opponent’s hand.

Now think about that hero power for a minute. A good way to abuse this is to leverage a bunch of spells and cards with charge and various battlecry’s. There are a few decks that will do this successfully. I attempted a nice Paladin deck first. The goal being to leverage various Paladin cards to set enemy attacks to 1 and keep healing and work the boss down. I had a few goes at it, and was getting there but just couldn’t get over the edge to win. Then I asked a few people how their attempts were going and Sancus mentioned that he just used a Freeze Mage deck and took care of it. The deck he used was different than what I had used earlier. Rather than repeat his tips for using the deck I’ll just share the link to his deck where he does a good job going over all of that.

Sancus Freeze Mage for Heroic Maexxna

That’s all of the heroic bosses for the Arachnid Quarter. The Plague Quarter opens up next in two weeks. Once I work through that I’ll make another guide for everyone. Questions or comments message me on Twitter.
